The Breeders are an alternative rock band hailing from Dayton, Ohio. Forming in 1989, the band started as a side-project to their full-time bands Pixies and Throwing Muses. While their early releases saw little commercial success, they developed a cult following, with Kurt Cobain citing Pod as one of his favorite albums of all time.
In 1993, the band released Last Splash, proving to be their most successful album, going on to be certified platinum by the RIAA, best known for its hit single Cannonball. The alt rock album highlights key pop moments scattered between erratic thrash-outs and droney tones. With effortlessly melodious tracks and sugary compositions, the release proves to be a strange mix of twisted pop, weird art-rock and just a touch of genius. There’s a reason the album hangs in a corridor in Dave Grohl’s recording studio, it’s an absolute must for alternative rock fans.
