Released in 1984, Ride the Lightning is the second studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica.
Although rooted in the thrash metal genre, the album showcased the band’s musical growth and lyrical sophistication. Bassist Cliff Burton introduced the basics of music theory to the band and had more input in the songwriting which allowed the band to travel to untouched territories within the band’s sound. James Hetfield also developed more socially aware lyrics, as well as ominous and semi-philosophical references.
Considered an ambitious effort by critics, the album would go on to solidify itself as a classic in the bands discography. Be sure to add this incredible album to your collection today!
